Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs preferably panko for extra crunch
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

Prepare the Mozzarella Sticks:

  • Cut each mozzarella stick in half to make 24 pieces (optional).
  • Freeze the mozzarella sticks for at least 1 hour to ensure they hold their shape when frying.

Coating:

  • Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls.
  • In the first bowl, place flour seasoned with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  • In the second bowl, place the beaten eggs.
  • In the third bowl, mix breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.

Bread the Mozzarella:

  • Dredge each mozzarella stick in the flour, dip into the egg, and then coat in the breadcrumb mixture.
  • For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating.

Fry the Mozzarella Sticks:

  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet over medium-high heat. The oil should be hot enough (around 350°F/175°C) to sizzle when the mozzarella sticks are added.
  • Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for 1-2 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.

Serve:

  • Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
